First Postpartum Depression Treatment Approved by FDA

What you need to know about the revolutionary new drug.

The first postpartum depression treatment drug has been approved by the FDA. However, this isn't just a pill moms can take. Instead, patients with PPD must check into a hospital or treatment center to receive the treatment.

press release from the FDA goes on to say, "Because of concerns about serious risks, including excessive sedation or sudden loss of consciousness during administration, Zulresso has been approved with a Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) and is only available to patients through a restricted distribution program at certified health care facilities where the health care provider can carefully monitor the patient."

Up to 1 in 7 women experience the affects of PPD, according to the APA

Of course, we are not healthcare professionals and cannot vouch for the safety of this new drug. That being said, we always recommend trying things naturally first, such as being mindful to reduce postpartum anxiety and even working with a postpartum doula. We appreciate that measures are being taken to help mothers with this condition.
